Your Quick Guide to Feeding Your Cat
Raising a cat might look simple but the feeding routine is actually something that you need to be keen on. Many people think that feeding their cat is simple because all they need to do is given them food at least two or three times a day.
You don’t want your cat to be underfed or overfed because as much as possible, you have to stay in the middle. Unless if your cat is pregnant, the belly should not be too rounded as it may result in obesity. If you want to make sure that your cat remains to be well-fed, you have to decide first whether you are going to offer cat food or human food. A malnourished cat usually has the hipbone protruding so you might want to increase your cat’s daily food serving.
It is important for you to feed your cat with human food such as fish but you must always provide them with the right nourishment from cat food. Therefore, you should slowly introduce cat food to your cat most especially in your cat’s younger age. With cat food diet, you can make sure that your cat will never experience nutrient deficiency.
It is easier for you to spot a healthy cat because you can see it in their bowel movement and physical features such as teeth and gums, fur, paws, and many others. Thus, you have to make sure that you are giving your cat food all the nutrients that he needs to stay healthy through the right cat food. When you adopted a cat, you have to check whether it comes with a health problem or not because you will have to adjust your cats diet according to his health condition.
When you have a younger and more active cat, it is best that you give him at least 240 calories of food per day. However, for senior cats and all other cats that don’t move that much and stays asleep most of the time, 24 calories would be enough. It shouldn’t be that hard for you to determine the number of calories that your cat gets when you feed him cat food because it is already noted in the label.
You must also be aware of the fact that cats do not drink a lot of water just as dogs do so it is best for you to give your cat some wet food as well. Canned goods like tuna have liquid content on it, so when you give your cat an entire can of tuna, they can also hydrate themselves as well. But the regular dry cat food will do for your furry friend if the water or milk bowl stays empty after an hour.
In case your cat is experiencing a change in eating patterns, this could be a sign of a health problem, so it is always best for you to reach out to a vet immediately.
